Frequently Asked Questions
What HAPPENS IN THE FIRST Intake SESSION?
The initial session is the intake session, which is an hour long rated at $100. This is our opportunity to chat about what you put on your intake waiver and discuss your goals and intentions for our time together.
Based on this conversation, I will describe what tools I have to help you achieve your goals and I will create a Proposal of Session Arcs for you…a sort of road map that gives you a sense of what topics we might cover together in our sessions, especially if you choose to buy a package of sessions.
This Proposal of Session Arcs is by no means a contract and, since our sessions are client-led, you will be able to adapt the plan as needed so that we can move at the pace of trust.
I will also be tracking how quickly we are moving and assessing whether we are ready to move on from a topic or not. So the takeaway is that these session arcs are a general framework, but our sessions may end up unfolding differently and we will both need to be flexible within them.
how long are the sessions?
This varies depending on what we are covering together and your resources.
Somatic Sex Education sessions and Body Joy sessions both have options on my scheduling software for 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes.
Sometimes people want to experience an “Intensive” session with me that may be 3 hours or more. If that is something you desire, you can contact me to schedule that.
If I buy a package of sessions, but decide mid way through that I don't want to complete them, can I get a refund for the sessions we haven't completed?
Yes.
For any sessions in your package that we have not done *and* that you have canceled with 24 hours notice, you will be refunded.
Do you work with religious/ transgender/ polyamorous/ kinky/ married/ single people?
I strive to be inclusive in all my work. Any and all people from all walks of life are welcome and find great benefit in the work.
do you work with trauma?
Yes. As Somatic Sex Educators and Sexological Bodyworkers we are ‘trauma-informed practitioners’, which means that we have an understanding of trauma and how it presents in the body.
Further, I purposefully chose my specific lineage of Somatic Sex Education training because there is a huge emphasis on understanding how trauma presents and how to recognize and be sensitive to it as it arises. I’ve also learned specific techniques to help survivors re-orient toward pleasure and learn how to experience safety in the body over time.
However, I am not a trauma specialist. Your safety is paramount- if you want to work with me specifically on abuse and trauma-related issues, I may suggest that you also work with a qualified counselor or psychotherapist as an adjunct to our work together.
Do you work with men?
Absolutely.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your own individual needs and pace – some issues can be resolved fairly quickly, while other endeavors might take longer to explore.
Generally, new clients should expect to commit to a minimum of 5 – 10 sessions.
Frequency of sessions range from once a week to once a month.
will there be nudity involved in the sessions?
During our sessions you can choose whether to be naked or how much to wear, based on your comfort and the trust we have established.
can i touch you?
As sexological bodyworker I practice within a clear ethical framework.
Touch is one way – from me to you.
Receiving one-way touch in the sessions gives you an opportunity to completely focus on your own body as a source of pleasure and eroticism – feeling into what kind of touch you would like, learning and putting into practice how to communicate your wants and needs.
Many clients have expressed how being able to receive touch without any focus or pressure to reciprocate can be a powerful and empowering experience.
What is the difference between somatic sex education/sexological bodywork sessions and Body Joy sessions?
Somatic Sex Education & Sexological Bodywork have a specific code of ethics under which we practice and sessions have a flow that, session upon session, builds upon each other to cultivate generalized skills around self-knowledge, consent, boundary setting, cultivating safety, cultivating somatic awareness, cultivating voice and choice and inhabiting the body, to name a few.
Body Joy sessions are appropriate ONLY for clients who aren’t working through any serious trauma, experience no pain or discomfort in their pelvis, can demonstrate that they already have a strong ability to set personal boundaries and are capable of clearly and specifically requesting the touch they want.
Such a person wouldn’t need to focus on the skill building of Somatic Sex Education, but could jump into practices centered around pleasure activation.
